Many approved families are waiting for a call from their adoption agency confirming a birth mom has chosen them. They have already completed their home study, filed the necessary paperwork, and put together a profile. Now, they’re just waiting.

As a birth mother, it is never too late to make an adoption plan. If it’s been in the back of your mind for a while, or you just thought about it in the hospital, you can make a last-minute adoption plan.

If you want to place your child for adoption, whether you’re planning ahead or you’ve already given birth, contact A Loving Option Adoption. Call or text our 24/7 helpline at 865-340-1667 and talk to someone any time of the day or night.

How Do I Make a Last-Minute Plan?

Plans change, people don’t come through with promises, or you realize how much work it will take to raise your child, and you’ve changed your mind. It’s completely understandable and acceptable.

Choosing adoption after your baby is born is more common than you may realize. In fact, there’s a name for it. It’s called a “stork drop” adoption. Many women choose adoption while in labor at the hospital, after delivery, or even after taking their baby home.

Even if you have already delivered, you can still decide that adoption is right for you. We are here to support and guide you. Your first step is to contact A Loving Option Adoption. A dedicated Birth Parent Specialist will contact you and provide free, 24/7 counseling to ensure that placing your child for adoption is what you want to do.

In Tennessee, mothers must wait a minimum of 72 hours after giving birth before they can sign any legal adoption papers. By waiting, you have time to review prospective adoptive parents, decide the amount of contact you wish to have as your child grows, and finalize your plans.

All adoption services are free for a birth mother. Your medical and legal expenses are completely covered.

How Is This Different From a Safe Haven Facility?

A Safe Haven allows a birth mother to surrender her baby (unharmed and within 45 days of birth) at a designated location anonymously. Under Tennessee law, the following qualify as Safe Haven facilities:

  • Hospitals
  • Birthing Centers
  • Health Departments
  • Walk-In Clinics
  • Fire Stations
  • Emergency Medical Services Facilities (EMS)
  • Police Stations

By dropping your baby at a Safe Haven location, you don’t have the opportunity to select the couple that raises your child or the chance to communicate with them as they grow. Often, the baby is placed in foster care until the Department of Children’s Services can arrange an adoption. You may also miss out on the emotional support, counseling, and practical resources that adoption agencies provide to birth mothers throughout this process. Every birth mother deserves to be supported, listened to, and cared for every step of the way, and you don’t have to carry this alone.
