When considering adoption for your child, you probably have many questions. Will someone want to adopt my child? How do I choose the adoptive family? Can I trust the adoptive family to keep their word? These are typical questions that every expectant mother or birth mother wonders about. We’ll try and answer them here.

Potential Adoptive Families

Couples who wish to be considered for adoption undergo a careful and time-consuming review. They must have background checks, get fingerprinted, have a home study, provide referral letters, fill out a bio, and so much more.

They are eager to adopt a child. Trust us. There is definitely a family to adopt yours, and because they have done so much work to be approved, we’re confident the couple you choose will love and nurture your child.

Your Rights as an Expectant Mother

Although every adoption experience is unique, every expectant or birth mother has the same rights. Here are some to consider:

  • You have the right to have the adoption process explained to you thoroughly.
  • You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • You have the right to select the adoptive family if you wish.
  • You have the right to change your mind.
  • You have the right to create your unique adoption plan.
  • You have the right to choose your post-placement relationship.
  • You have the right to long-term support and counseling.

Trusting Your Adoptive Family

By choosing a semi-open or open adoption, you can select the adoptive couple who raises your child. You will look for a couple that feels the same way you do about family, education, holidays, pets, or whatever is special to you.

You’ll also search for the couple wanting to maintain the same amount of contact as you post-placement. Before the adoption is finalized, you and the adoptive couple create a written post-adoption contact agreement.

Once you have chosen your adoptive family, you can begin building a relationship with them before your child is born. Doing so builds trust and confidence.
