If you are considering placing your baby for adoption, your mind is most likely racing with questions. Who will raise my child? How will I know they will love and care for them? What’s it like having other parents raise your baby?

Adoption is not only a physical decision to place your baby with another family. It’s an extremely emotional choice, too. Each woman’s experience is unique. Rest assured, at A Loving Option Adoption, we have answers to your most important questions.

Choosing Who Will Raise Your Child

When you choose an open or semi-open adoption plan, you also have the opportunity to select the adoptive parents who will raise your child. Essentially, by choosing the parents, you are shaping your child’s future.

To begin the process of selecting the adoptive parents, your Birth Parent Specialist first asks about your priorities for your child. What is essential to you?

Do you want the couple to have other children, live in a particular geographic location, practice a specific religion, or have unique hobbies? What’s important to you should be important to them. You need to connect with them and genuinely understand how they will raise your baby.

Selecting the Relationship You Want With the Adoptive Family

You also need to determine how you want to interact with the adoptive family and your child moving forward. Adoption isn’t a one-day event. It’s a lifetime experience. Your relationship with the family evolves over time, but how do you want it to begin?

Open Adoption Plan

With open adoption, you communicate directly with the adoptive family you have chosen. Together, you determine the amount and type of contact you wish to have. We have communication requirements for adoptive families, but you can craft a plan that works best for all of you.

Semi-Open Adoption Plan

A semi-open adoption, also known as a “mediated” adoption, is very similar to an open adoption. You have contact with your chosen adoptive family, but your adoption agency representative transfers all communication between the two parties. It provides more privacy.

Closed Adoption Plan

Very few adoptions are completely closed today. This plan keeps the adoptive family and you anonymous. The courts seal the original birth certificate, and no identifying information is exchanged between the parties.

How the Adoptive Parents Raise Your Child

All parents raise their children differently. Some are strict, some give their children extra freedom, and others are very protective. Everyone views parenting from their own life experience. Take careful time to view the bios of prospective adoptive parents, so you have a sense of how they plan to raise your child.

Talk with your Birth Parent Specialist and, if you wish, meet the potential adoptive parents before your baby is born. You won’t be alone as you go through the adoption process. We provide a 24/7 Helpline so you can speak with someone any time of the day or night.
